What the Civil Rights Movement can Teach the Sustainability Movement
For many of us, civic and personal responsibility lies at the heart of the sustainability movement as our love for our planet and each other motivates us to take action on issues of social justice and ecological stewardship. Despite the rapid growth of this global conversation, there is much to overcome in terms of inertia, ignorance, and indifference.
Throughout her stellar career, Dorothy Cotton has focused on inspiring citizens to think more deeply about their roles and their rights as responsible adults. She was at the very heart of the civil rights movement, designing the programs that helped others awaken to their need to engage in the work of challenging the status quo and insisting on democracy and freedom.
In this keynote address, Ms. Cotton will share her insights on how the sustainability movement can take the lessons of the civil rights era and apply them at this critical time of global peril and awakening consciousness. |
